Greg Hildebrandt is one of twin brothers who collaboratively worked as fantasy and science fiction artists. In 1987, he produced a 40-page illustrated adaptation of Peter and Wendy, published as simply Peter Pan. It features a heavily-condensed version of the story in large type, with every two-page spread including a full-page full-color painted illustration of a scene from the story. It was published by The Unicorn Publishing House of New Jersey in 1990, the same year as Hildebrandt's adaptation of Alice in Wonderland.

Greg and Tim Hildbrandt were born January 23, 1939 in Detroit, and began painting professionally in 1959. "The Brothers Hildebrandt" are best known for their popular 1970s The Lord of the Rings illustrations, painting film posters and book covers for Star Wars (including the unforgettable first movie poster), illustrating comics and cards, and their Magic: The Gathering illustrations. Their art features a naturalistic realism, which is especially compelling in depicting fantastic beings and scenes, especially in the days before digital rendering made such images commonplace.

In 1999, Greg Hildebrandt started "American Beauties", a solo series of pinups. Also a solo artist he is famous for his contributions to the art for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's albums and concert merchandise. He provided the cover art for Black Sabbath's Mob Rules album.

His brother Tim died of diabetes complications on June 11, 2006, at the age of 67.
