Tigerheart is a novel by Peter David which uses the characters and world of Peter Pan for a story about an original character. Much of David's work consists of writing new adventures for other people's characters (e.g. Star Trek, Marvel superheroes) and as Peter Pan approached public domain status, he began playing with the idea of doing this with Peter and Wendy, a book he'd always loved. The story began to develop into one focusing on Paul Dear ("dear", like "darling"), his new protagonist, with the Barrie characters playing a supporting role. Perhaps to avoid the book being labeled as just a "Peter Pan book", David renames everything; Neverland becomes Anyplace, Peter Pan is The Boy, Tinker Bell is Fiddlefix, Captain Hook is Captain Hack, etc. He also introduces a white tiger, which gives Paul the nickname Tigerheart.
